3 Strand Ghan Comparison

Three Strand ghan #2 with my son Teo

And here is 3 strand ghan #1.
Apparently I seem to have alot of the same colors, cuz each afghan has similar stripes in it. I'm really happy with both. PLUS...I have almost a full tote and a big black garbage back FULL of scraps to get thru. I sense another 3 strand ghan coming up! Not that I'm complaining!
I just finished a scrap rug too which I think I started about 3 years ago and found it while I was rummaging and figured it more than high time I finish it. I mean...3 years?? LAAAAZZYYYY!
And I completely finished 3 preemie blankets for charity, which I HAVE to get in the mail on Monday if they are going to reach the lady in time.
Next months charity is hats/scarves/mittens for teens. I think its called Freedom Village? I'm not sure. I'll have to look it up and post it for sure.
I gotta go finish supper now.

Current WIP's are:
1. Another 3 strand blankie. Yay. I'm about 1/2 way thru it.
2.I started a 'comfort afghan' yesterday. I got 4 squares into it to discover that I made the wrong squares in the wrong colors. So now I have 3 squares waiting to do something else. Maybe they'll be gifted to someone looking for squares on Crochetville.

I decided that I am starting a 'comfortghan' and 'prayer shawl' ministry in our church. Well, I guess not ME 'starting' it....I am going to contribute them to the church and they can distribute them as they see fit. I don't like doing ministry things for recognition. We have lots of people that get ministered to through our church that need pick-me-ups and nobody in the church makes anything like that for them. So, I will. It may not be alot all at once, but little by little....
Slow and steady wins the race, right?!?

Well, to crochet more squares since I've been bumped back to ONE done..:)

Crazy Dog

Well, here I children. I thought 'what a breeze today will fighting..noone needing me...noone nagging me....'

Yeah. My chocolate lab has lost his mind. Since there are no kids here to keep him feeling like he's not being left behind, he has decided that every time I have a customer he has to whine because I go on the other side of the baby gate without him. Nevermind that he can see me and smell me and sometimes even touch me. He whines and paces...paces and whines. Then when the customer goes away he is in the back with me, whining and pacing and walking very excitedly to the back door like he has to go outside. He goes outside and pees and ...does other things...and comes back in. Only to continue whining and pacing to the door like he has to go outside!! OMGosh!!!! Its actually WORSE than having fighting children. Cuz you can't even reason with a dog! If I shift in my chair, he pops up and runs to the door. If I cough he pops up and starts whining......I QUIT!!!

I'm tellin you people. If one more thing in my life whines at me...I will throttle it!!

My mother in law loved her purse!! OH CRAP!! It's my Dad's birthday today and I even saw him this morning and I never said a THING! I suck as a daughter. I'm ashamed. Don't look at me.

Now I need chocolate.

St. Baldricks Foundation

I am going to quite shamelessly use my blog as advertisement or endorsing or whatever it is...for the St. Baldrick's Foundation.

What is the St. Baldrick's Foundation? Well they raise money for Children's Cancer Research. But not in any conventional way. They have huge events where tons of people come together and get their heads shaved in honor of kids that lose their hair due to chemotherapy treatments. Stefani lost her hair during a real rough part of chemo. And last year she happened to be an honoree at the event in Steven's Point, WI. We have formed a team and are raising money this year. We have a goal of $2000. It just so happens that we were a two person team and one of our team members is having a commitment problem, so.....

I would love it if you could visit their website: It is a worthy cause. If you would like to donate, it would be great if you donated to the "Stevens Point/The Ridges" event. If you want to directly donate to our team, we are called the "Dooger Doo's" and my husband Anthony Mareno is our team captain (and at this time our sole participant). :)

My daughter had an extremely curable version of cancer. But that was only because they have done research for 30+ years and have found a way to cure it. Please consider helping in any way.

Finished Purse

I know that I should have a picture to show you the finished purse. I know, I know...but no.
Like a doof, I left my memory card for my camera at work...brought the camera home though. I cannot tell you how much I am looking forward to this weekend!!!!!!!!
Tony and I are going away for the night tomorrow. Joy, Joy,JOYYYYYYY!!!!!!
No dogs, no children..(as much as I love them), no house, no dishes, no crocheting(my hands are aching after busting that purse out), no phones(for the most, no cleaning.
Let's all take time for a collective sigh of relief *sigh*. Now don't we feel better?? Yes? Me, too.

After the stress of fundraising for children's cancer research, difficult days of homeschooling, cranky, hormonal feelings of unrest...I am just soo ready.

Finished WIP w/ dimensions

I have gotten so caught up in the Crochetville chat that I have neglected to share things here. I have finished my 3strand ghan. It turned out really nice. Big enough for two people and very warm.
ch 100 with N hook and 3 strands of yarn at all times. Those were my dimensions. Then I just dc in 4th ch from hook and away we go. I made it so that it was just taller than me (5'1"). I didn't care what I put in there. I mixed it all.
I think I'll probably be making one or two more depending on how my stash holds out. One more for sure. I really went through alot of yarn on this first one.
Currently I am working on my mother in laws birthday gift. I know she doesn't read my blog so I'll share a picture of one I already made and then hers in progress. They are made with Lion Suede. The book is Lion Brand "Just Bags". There is knitting, crocheting, felting. Purses with handles, purses without handles...the list goes on and on. I have only made the "messenger bag" from it. The kids want to give it to her early so she can use it while they are at the Mall of America this weekend. Gma and Gpa are taking the 5 oldest grandkids there and to a hotel with an indoor water park. This was their Christmas gift to them. They are giving them each $100 to spend at the Mall, so I'm sure this is going to be a really good time for them!
BUT Mommy and Daddy decided to put the dogs at the 'puppy hotel' in town here and go away for a few days ourselves! So we are going to go about an hour from here and we have a whirlpool suite waiting for us. I plan on sleeping in and using the whirlpool alot. Tony and I don't ever get away by ourselves, theres always some reason...don't have time...don't have money. Well this time it all worked in our favor! :)
I suppose, I am closing in half an hour and I need to get things from our bake sale packed up.

Web Junkie

Two days in a row. What is happening to me? Am I becoming a Web-Junkie again? No. I refuse. I will not do that again.

But since I'm here.....My stash busting is going well. I have obtained 4 pts in the 'stash busting game'. I will get 3 more by tomorrow. I haven't even started my charity blanket(s). I just found out today they are preemie blankets. So I will be busy working on those. And they will help in the busting of my stash because they only have to be 12" or 20", so I won't need alot of yarn.

Today was a really irritable day. I am glad I have tomorrow off. Money and the lack of it really makes people cranky. Especially me. But God is my source, so I will not fear.

What do I want to eat, you ask? If I were going for total comfort foods that I didn't have to prepare, I would say Chicken Fried Chicken with lots of gravy, Sweet Corn, Apple Pie, (I think my stomach just grumbled) and Cheesy Hashbrown Potatoes. Mm, Mm, Mm!

But seeing as how I have to cook, its going to be steak and frozen potatoes. I hate stove top steaks and I would like them grilled, but its like -11 outside steak would REfreeze going from the plate to the grill!!! A sad, pitiful thing. Why can't somebody just knock on my door with a premade meals on wheels for the employed....who cares if I can take care of myself!?!

Oh that whole last paragraph was SELFISH!!!! I better go and repent!

Thursday, February 01, 2007

OMGosh.........I am totally excited. I have just gotten involved with Crochetville. I know, I's been there forever and once again I'm a day late and a dollar short in finding it. But to be completely honest, I have not had the time to be online and do anything like this for about 3 years. (2 years of my daughters cancer treatments, 1 year of going back to work full time)So its a whole new world of discovery for me.

I joined a Crochet Along- Stash busting. So I will be finding all kinds of little charity things to do to get rid of my yarn stash.
I also joined in a Charity Crochet thingie. I am going to make at least one bereavement blanket for February.

Good thing I found this place or I just might have started wondering what I was going to do next! Last year I stash busted for 4 months solid. I chose a charity and then made a box of things they needed and sent it off. I got rid of a lot of yarn. Then I started this yarn store and now my stash just keeps getting bigger and bigger....its turning into a mountain!!! So it is time to bust my stash once again!

Can you believe we are 1/12th of our year down?? Unreal.

I don't have a lot to say. I'm pretty boring. I miss people today. I miss my husband, even though I just saw him like three hours ago and I will see him again in about 6. I miss Brandon. He's living in California for his Marine training. I've spoken to him a few times this week and it's made me miss him. I love his smile. Who is Brandon? Brandon is one of the kids in our youth group from church that became one of our kids. He and his cousin Mandy (picture with my son Teo) are our adopted children. Brandon graduated last year and went into the Marines. (he's in the Marine pic, lol, duh) I didn't miss him at first. But now I do, alot. He came home for a month at Christmas time and got me all used to seeing him again. What am I gonna do when Mandy graduates this year and goes away to college in the fall?
Ok, who else do I miss? Wierdly enough I could handle being around my parents for a few days.
That's about it.
Oh, and this may sound strange, but I wish I was a black woman. Cuz even when they are overweight they are pretty. This white girl just looks fat. (yes, I am hormonal today)
Now that we've been lifted up and raised to a new level of depression.....
have a great day!
