About Me

My photo
I am 45. I am married to the love of my life. Together we have two beautiful young adults who bring me joy everyday. In 2015 we added another beautiful young adult to our house, our niece, and she has been a great joy! Secretly, I'm counting the years till grandbabies start coming; they just need to find their forever loves first.

Understanding Exhaustion

Have you ever seen a child that has just fallen asleep where they sit? I have. I watched my kids do it a few times when they were very small. You look at them and think, "Man, I would love to be able to just sleep like that." There is a reason. They are exhausted. Their little bodies are so worn out from growing and expending pent up energy, they just collapse.(Actually, my Dad falls asleep like that too.)

I got a new job. It was a total whirlwind romance from the temp agency interview, to the background check, to the call that said "Hey, I'm looking at this job...would you be interested?"

Um, heck yeah I'm interested! I had gotten to the point with applying for jobs that I said, "If it sits still too long, I'm slapping my resume on it!" We were at the point of desperately needing extra income and while I am willing to work anywhere (I am not too good for any job), I know that my knees would not have been able to handle a job that had me standing for 8 to 12 hours at a time. I decided to go to a temp agency that specializes in placing office staff. From interview to placement, it was less than a week. Praise God! I am just so thankful on every single level.

That having been said, I am exhausted. My usual routine is to go up to bed around 10-10:30 and then play my little games on my phone till 11 and then go to sleep. I always lay on my tummy with my head facing the foot of the bed (the TV, lol) and play my games. Last night, Tony said that I sat up, put my phone and my glasses on my bedside table, picked up my pillow and started moving it to the head of the bed. I said, "Goodnight" as I was laying my pillow down. Then he said it was the craziest thing because he doesn't think my head was even on the pillow before I was snoring. Ha! I kid you not when I say I have been tired. I can completely relate with the little kid in the picture. :)

I must say, I love my new job. I work as an admin assistant doing what I am good at. I am loving the fact that we can start saving money and have an emergency fund. God has been SO good to us and just constantly provides our every need at the exact time that we need them.

I am afraid that my crocheting and designing may suffer. I am still feeling all of this out and trying to create a pattern, but it's only been 2 days of work so far, so I need to cut myself some slack. I am thinking of starting to sell at one of the local artisan/farmer's markets, but I'm not sure I will have time to do that before the end of the year. Life is just so busy and I have regular orders from Etsy that I am working to keep up with. Plus, I'm trying to keep up with college on top of that. Something will have to give. Not sure what it will be. I'll keep you posted.

Tah for now!

Family Time

We enjoyed a few hours at the beach recently. We gathered some shells and enjoyed the lovely breeze. The weather has finally cooled down to a reasonable temperature. We have had the house open for the last three days and I LOVE IT!
My baby man, Teo, turned 16 in September. We had fun decorating and being silly for his birthday. We bought a whole bunch of Avengers decorations and put up streamers and a Happy Birthday banner. He asked for brownies for his birthday 'cake', so I made some super fudgy ones. He got a kick out of his goodies. :) Then we celebrated at Steak N Shake (his choice) and went to see Batman: The Dark Knight Rises. That was a wonderful end to that series. It left openings for certain story lines to be continued, and completed the Batman trilogy on a tremendously hopeful note. We are pretty geeky in this house, so those things matter to us. LOL.

Baby Stuff- the OTHER obsession

Chunky Fuzzy Bear & Booties
My other obsession, lately, has been making baby things for my Etsy store. I have found that hats and booties are so much fun to make (now that I know how to size hats appropriately)! I have always enjoyed it, but lately, I have been designing quite a bit of my own stuff, as well as, purchasing some new patterns and trying them out. The sock monkey hat is a pattern that I bought from Sandy's Cape Cod Designs on Etsy. The sock monkey booties are something I came up after I learned how to make booties in a consistent size. (I've had some challenges!!) I came up with the Zen Baby sets on the bottom of the post after making a basic pair of booties that "just needed something". So, I made a flower that turned out to be too big for the toes, so it went on the side. Then I thought "how cute would that be to make a matching hat?!?" So the hat was born and needed to have a matching flower. Then I looked at the trim I put on the hat and thought "omg...that would just tie the whole thing together if I put the trim on the booties too!"......

If you ever wondered what my "methods" were for designing....there ya go. It's as scientific as a bunch of random, scattered thoughts all landing in the same place at the same time. :)

Catherine's Wheel Afghan

I just had to share my latest obsession with you. It's called Catherine's Wheel Square or Wool-Eater Stitch or Bavarian Stitch. I learned it by watching Crochet Geek's YouTube Tutorial. She did a fabulous job at teaching the stitch.

The video is only 26 minutes long, so it's a short, but worthy investment!

I highly recommend that you learn the stitch. It lives up to its name and becomes a bit of a wool eater when you get about 20" wide. I finished my lap afghan at 36"x36" and it was taking about a 1/2 skein of yarn to finish one color strip. I adore this pattern and I will be making many more. I'm thinking about trying it without the square accent and see how that turns out. :) Should be fun!

Thoughts on a Website

Ok, all you crazy people. I am hamming around the idea of starting an actual website that would incorporate all of my free patterns in a more usable format, as well as, have my blog, etc all in one easy spot.

Thoughts? Comments?

I never seem to get much for feedback or comments, so this should be interesting......
