Little Deer Square Pattern

Little Deer Square Pattern

by Elizabeth Mareno

Hi friends!

Continuing with last week's theme, I expanded the little squares set and designed three more. This is the Little Deer Square. The finished size is roughly 3.5-4", so it's not very big at all, and it won't take up all your patience with detailing, either!

Materials:
Scrap amounts (about 1/2 oz each) of deer color (bone, off white, chocolate, gray, etc), secondary color, and edge color. Tiny amount of off white for antlers.
#7/4.5mm hook
F/3.75mm hook
Large eye needle for weaving in ends.

Abbreviations US terms:
MR- magic ring
SC- single crochet
CH- chain
HDC- half double crochet
DC- double crochet
SL ST- slip stitch

Pattern US terms:
with deer color
R1- MR, 8 sc in magic ring. (8) pull center tight and join with first sc.

R2- ch1, 2sc in each sc around. (16) join with first sc.

R3- ch2 (does not count as hdc), hdc in same stitch as join, 2hdc in next, (hdc in next st, 2hdc in next) around to the end. (24hdc) join with first hdc, not the ch2. Cut and change color to secondary color.

R4- with secondary color, join in the join space with a ch3 (counts as a dc), (dc, ch2, 2dc) in the same join space, [*dc in 5sc,* (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in corner] 3x, repeat * to * once. join with first dc. (36) cut color.

R5- with edge color, join with a ch3 in a corner space, (dc, ch2, 2dc) in the same space, [*dc in 9*, (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in corner] 3x, repeat * to * once. (54)  join. cut color.

Deer Ears:  The stitches that you need to find to make sure your ears are centered are marked in blue. On the right side join with a sl st around the post of the stitch with the arrow. Put 2dc around the next post (indicated with a 2). Sl st around the post of the dc right above the post you worked your 2dc. Cut off.
Move to the opposite side of the square- starting in the dc above the post where you will put the 2dc, join with a sl st around the top of the post (the same way you finished off the other ear), 2dc ar the post below, sl st around the next post. Cut off.

Antlers- Make 2: with off white and the F hook- ch6, sl st in the second ch from the hook and the next two chains. Leave remaining chains unworked and ch3, sl st in the 2nd ch and next. Working in the unworked chains, sl st in the last 2.

Enjoy!!
