Florida's Emerald Coast- Road Trip CAL 2025

WELCOME to

FLORIDA'S  EMERALD COAST

on this awesome Road Trip Around the World!!

We're Soaking Up the Sunshine in Pensacola, Florida

Pensacola, FL, located on the Emerald Coast of the Gulf of Mexico, is a beautiful place to live. If you're dreaming of soft white sand and the sound of waves gently crashing on the shore, then Pensacola is your perfect beach escape. This coastal gem offers some of the most beautiful beaches in the country—calm, clear waters, powdery sand, and a laid-back vibe that’s hard to beat.

Pensacola feels like an overgrown small town, with friendly people and a diverse culture. We are the city of five flags, which represents the five different countries or military entities that have occupied Pensacola at one time or another since its establishment in 1559. Pensacola has been ruled by the Spanish, French, British, United States, and the Confederate army. There are amazing old forts to visit in the surrounding area. Fort Pickens, located by Pensacola Beach, is one of the most iconic and interesting to explore (and is my personal favorite).

Whether you're walking along the water’s edge collecting seashells, catching a perfect sunset, or just enjoying the peaceful rise and fall of the waves, Pensacola is a slice of paradise that invites you to slow down and breathe deeply.

I used the inspiration that I felt from living in Pensacola to design the tenth strip of the Road Trip CAL Blanket. One of my favorite things to do is to sit on the beach early in the morning and listen to the waves. It calms my spirit, and the salty air washes away all my cares. Hopefully, you, as the maker, will feel the calm in the waves as you work the Emerald Coast strip. It is made using simple stitches like sc, hdc, dc, and tr. Once you get in the rhythm of the stitches, you will find yourself lost in the waves.

Boho Chic Summer Cover-Up: Pullover Style

Hey there, my crochet friends!

I am thrilled to announce the Boho Chic Summer Cover-Up, which was a CAL I cohosted with my wonderful friend Pamela Kuloba from Pam's Cozy Corner! We both live in Pensacola, FL and thought that working together to make a fun Summer CAL would be just the thing to celebrate the Florida beach life. This is a chance to explore two fabulous designs using the same yarn, making it a unique and exciting project for all skill levels.

๐ŸŒธ **Two Designs, One Yarn!** ๐ŸŒธ

Pam and I have each created a special cover-up using the same yarn, Lion Brand Truboo. Truboo is a 100% Rayon (from bamboo) DK weight yarn. This yarn can be easily substituted with any other DK weight cotton or cotton blend.

Our two suggestions are:

*Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton DK

*Paintbox DK Cotton/Acrylic

Both brands are a great replacement for the *Lion Brand Truboo.

Pam’s design is a stylish Robe Style, perfect for lounging in the sun or adding a boho touch to your summer outfits. My design is a chic Pullover Style, great for a casual day out or a beach cover-up. Both patterns are available for FREE on our blogs!

✨ **Inclusive Sizes** ✨

We believe everyone should feel fabulous in their handmade creations, so both designs come in three inclusive sizes: S/M, L/XL, and 2X/3X. There’s a perfect fit for everyone!

Groundkeeper's Hut Crochet Pattern - Part 5 - Decorations

๐ŸŒฟ✨ Crafting Enchantment: Decorating Your Groundkeeper's Hut with Whimsical Wonders! ๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿ„

Greetings, creators of magical things! As we near the completion of our Groundkeeper's Hut crochet project, it's time to add the final touches that will truly bring our enchanted hideaway to life. Today, we'll be making decorations and crafting tiny wonders that will adorn the exterior of our hut and fill it with charm and whimsy.

Let's start with the vines. Using a combination of chains and slip stitches, we'll create delicate tendrils that wind their way around the walls of our hut, adding a touch of natural beauty to the rustic surroundings. Feel free to experiment with different shades of green yarn to mimic the varied foliage of the wizarding world.

Next up, we have the pumpkins – a quintessential symbol of autumn and harvest magic. With just a few rounds of crochet and some clever shaping techniques, you'll create adorable little gourds that will add a pop of color to your Groundkeeper's Hut. Whether you opt for classic orange pumpkins or mix things up with a rainbow of hues, the choice is yours!

And let's not forget about the red-capped mushrooms, with their whimsical shapes and vibrant colors. These tiny treasures are the perfect way to add a touch of fantasy to your crochet creation, whether they're peeking out from beneath the vines or nestled in a cozy corner of the roof. Don't be afraid to get creative – after all, in the wizarding world, anything is possible!

The best part about these decorations? They're incredibly small and perfect for using up those leftover bits of yarn that tend to accumulate in your stash. Plus, you can make as many or as few of them as you like, allowing you to customize your Groundkeeper's Hut to suit your own unique vision.

Who is this pattern good for? Everyone!

Whether you're looking for a unique baby shower gift or a toy for an older child who yearns to explore the mythical world of Harry Potter, this pattern has got you covered. Just imagine the joy on your little one's face as they fill their very own Groundkeeper's Hut with unicorns, dragons, and other mystical creatures of their imagination!

You don't have to stop at just babies. The really big kids like this toy bag just as much as medium and small-sized people! This would make a fabulous gift for a friend or yourself. Just fill it with all of your favorite fantastical creatures! I've linked my favorite patterns below- these are well-written and I have personally made them to put in my own Huts.

There is a PDF upgrade available!

Groundkeeper's Hut Crochet Pattern - Part 4 - The Roof

Reaching New Heights: Crocheting the Enchanting Roof of Your Groundkeeper's Hut! ๐ŸŒŒ๐ŸŒฟ

Hello again, friends! Are you ready to create a roof for your Groundkeeper's Hut? .

First things first, gather your crochet hook, yarn in the color of your choice (perhaps a rustic shade reminiscent of aged thatch or weathered shingles), and plenty of stitch markers. Counting will be key in this part of the pattern, so let's make sure we have everything we need to keep track of our stitches as we work in the round.

With each stitch, envision the magical creatures and whimsical wonders that will soon call your Groundkeeper's Hut home. From unicorns to dragons, fairies to phoenixes, your enchanted hideaway will be a sanctuary for all manner of mythical beings, thanks to the sturdy roof that you're crafting with your own two hands.

And once the final round is complete, step back and admire your handiwork. You've created a rooftop that's as charming as it is functional, providing shelter and security for your magical treasures for years to come. Now, it's time to add the finishing touches and fill your hut with wonders beyond imagination.

Did you finish your Door?

Groundkeeper's Hut Crochet Pattern - Part 3 - The Door

Step Into Magic: Crafting the Enchanted Door of Your Groundkeeper's Hut! ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿšช

Greetings again, friends! Are you ready to add a whimsical door  to your Groundkeeper's Hut? Next up we are creating a textured and decorated doorway, complete with door jambs, a ribbed door that resembles wood planks, and ornate black ironwork pieces that will make your hut truly stand out in the wizarding world.

We will create door jams and a door with a loop closure for a button. The door jambs will act as sturdy pillars to frame our doorway, adding structure and stability to our design. The door will be basic sc in the back loop only to create the textured front and regular single crochets to create the flat backside. We will decorate it with a few "ornate" black ironwork pieces, one of which will double as your button loop closure, and then we can attach it to our door jambs.

It's so much easier than it looks and will require a little bit of construction on our parts, but I think we can do it! What say you?

Once you get it attached to your hut, you can step back and admire your handiwork, knowing that you've created a portal to a world of fantasy and adventure. Whether you're storing mystical creatures or simply indulging in a bit of imaginative play, your enchanted hut is sure to inspire wonder and delight for years to come.

Did you finish your walls?

If you missed the second part of this pattern- the walls- then click the picture below to be taken to the pattern. You will need to create the walls before you create your door. :)
