Material:

Scrap balls of Worsted Weight Cotton yarn.
Hook: #7/4.5 mm
Large eye needle for sewing ends

Gauge size: Bottom of cover should measure 3” across using WW yarn and a #7 hook

US Terminology

Abbreviations:

Ch- chain
sc- single crochet
hdc- half double crochet
dc- double crochet
tr- treble crochet
bpsc- back post single crochet

Special Stitches:

Sc3tog- (single crochet 3 together)- [yo, insert hook in the next st, yo, pull up a loop] 3x, yo, pull through 4 loops

Tr3tog- (treble crochet 3 together)- [yo twice, insert hook in the next st, (yo, pull through two loops) twice,] 3 times, yo, pull through 4 loops

Rev Sc- (Reverse Single Crochet or Crab Stitch)- with the right side facing you and working in the opposite direction, sc in the next stitch.

NOTE: 

1- You can change colors and stripe wherever you would like.

2- It is helpful to have an empty/clean pint container for "fitting" purposes as you are working. 

3- If you want a snug fit, blocking on an empty/clean pint container is recommended. 



Pattern:

Rd1- MR, ch1, 6sc in ring, join. (6sc)

Rd2- ch1, 2sc in each st, join. (12sc)

Rd3- ch1, (sc, 2sc in next) around, join. (18sc)

Rd4- ch1, (sc in 2, 2sc in next) around, join. (24sc)

Rd5- ch1, (sc in 3, 2sc in next) around, join. (30sc)

Rd6- ch1, (sc in 4, 2sc in next) around, join. (36sc)

Measure the bottom. If you are at 3” across- skip round 7. If you skip round 7, your row counts will decrease by six going forward.

Rd7- ch1, (sc in 5, 2sc in next) around, join. (42sc)

Rd8- ch1, bpsc in each sc around, join. (42)

Rd9- ch1, sc in each sc around, join. (42)

Rd10- ch1, (sc, hdc, dc, 3tr, dc, hdc) around, join to 1st sc. (54 st)

cut yarn

Rd11- rejoin yarn in a center stitch of 3 tr with a ch1, 3sc in the join, *sc in 2, sc3tog, sc in 2,** 3sc;  repeat from * around, ending on **, join with the 1st sc. (54 sc)

Rd12- ch1, sc in join, *3sc, sc in 2, sc3tog, sc in 2; repeat from * around, ending with sc in 1. (54 sc)

cut yarn

Rd13- rejoin yarn in a center st of 3 sc with a ch1, sc in join, *hdc, dc, tr3tog, dc, hdc**, sc; repeat from * around, ending on **, join with the 1st sc. (42 st)

Rd14- ch1, sc in join and each st around. join (42 sc)

Rd15- ch1, hdc in join and each st around. Join (42 hdc)

Rd16-18- ch1, sc in join and each st around, join. (42sc)

The next row is decorative, so you don't have to do it if you don't like doing the crab stitch!

Rd19- ch1, rev sc in each st around. Cut yarn.
