#4 Worsted Weight Cotton

Brand used in the Sample: I Love This Cotton, #4 Worsted, 100% Cotton, (3.5oz/100g, 180yd/165m)

1 skein of #52 Forest Green

 Hook: #7/4.5mm (bag sides)

            H/6.00mm (handle)

Large Eye Needle/Scissors/Stitch Markers
2 stitch markers

 Gauge: 16sc x 17rows = 4” x 4”

 Special Stitches:

Leaf: yo, insert hook in sp on row below last st, yo, pull up loop, yo, insert hook in sp 2 rows below next st, yo, pull up a loop, yo, insert hook 3 rows below next st, yo, pull up a loop, yo, insert hook 2 rows below next st, yo, pull up a loop, yo, insert hook 1 row below next st, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through all loops on hook, ch2, sc in st above last leaf leg.

 

Notes for Side Leaf Panels:

1- Count leaf stitch as 3 stitches when counting the stitches per side.

2- Leaf uses 5 sts below working round. The 1st spike – under sc just made to right, 2nd – 1 row under 1st and 1 stitch to left, 3rd – 1 row under 2nd and 1 stitch to left, 4th – 1 row above 3rd and 1 stitch to left, 5th – 1 row above 4th and 1 stitch to left, yo, pull through 11 loops, ch 2, sc above 5th spike.

3- Rd2 and after, any row you are continuing with the same color, start round by slip stitching to the corner and then make your starting chain.

Notes for the Handle:

1- Ch3 counts as a dc.

Rd3- sl st to corner ch2-sp, ch1, [(sc, ch2, sc) in corner, sc in each sc] 4x, join to first sc. (7sc/side)

Rd4-5- repeat Rd3, (rd4- 9sc/side, rd5-11sc/side)

Cut color after Rd5.

Rd6- Join w/ch1 in corner ch2-sp, [(sc, ch2, sc) in corner sp, sc in 4, make leaf, sc in last 3] 4x, join to first sc. (13/side)

Handle:

Use 1mm Cotton Cord & H hook

The handle is worked directly onto the side panels. To begin join to any corner sp of either piece with a ch1.

Row 1: sc in the corner, (ch2, sk 2sc, sc in next) 17x, sc in the next ch2 corner sp, pm, ch101, sc in next ch-2 corner sp- be careful not to twist the chain when you attach it to the opposite corner, sc in the next sc, (ch2, sk 2sc, sc in next) 16x, ch2, sk 2sc, sc in the next ch-2 corner sp. (38 sc, 101 ch, 34 ch-2 sp)

Row 2: ch3, turn, dc in next ch-2 sp, (ch2, sk sc, dc in ch-2 sp) 16x, ch1, sk1, dc in next sc, (ch1, sk ch, dc in next ch) 49x, ch1, sk1, dc in the marked sc, ch1, sk1, dc in next ch-2 sp, (ch2, sk1, dc in next ch-2 sp) 16x, dc in last sc. (88 dc, 32 ch-2 sp, 53 ch-1 sp)

Row 3: ch1, turn, sc in next dc, ch1, sk1, sc in ch-2 sp, (ch2, sk1, sc in ch-2 sp) 15x, ch2, sk1, sc in ch-1 sp, (ch1, sk1, sc in ch-1 sp) 52x, (ch2, sk1, sc in ch-2 sp) 16x, ch1, sk1, sc in last dc. (87 sc, 32 ch-2 sp, 54 ch-1 sp)

Row 5: Repeat Row 3

Row 6: Repeat Row 4

Mark the 19th dc from the bottom on both sides of the handle.

Cut cord.



Joining the Second Panel

First Side (this will be the top of the bag): in the corner ch-2 sp, join w/ch1, sc in corner sp, sl st in the 19th dc of the handle, sc in the next sc, sl st to the ch-2 sp, (ch2, sk 2sc on the side, sc in next sc, sl st in the next ch sp on the handle) repeat to the last 2 sc on the side, ch2, sk 2sc on the side, sl st in the last ch sp, sc in the corner ch-2 sp of the side.

Cut cord.

Second Side (start in the bottom corner of the opposite side of the panel): join w/ch1 corner sp, sc in corner sp, sl st to the first dc on the bottom of the handle, (ch2, sk 2sc on the side, sc in next sc, sl st in the next ch sp on the handle) repeat to the last 3 sc on the side, ch2, sk 2sc on the side, sl st in the next ch sp, sc in the next sc, sl st in the next ch sp, sc in the ch-2 sp.

Cut cord.

  


Bag Bottom:

Use Ivory and #7 hook, ch52

Row 1: sc in second ch from hook and each. (51 sc)

Row 2- 10: ch1, turn, sc in each. (51 sc)

Cut Ivory.



Line the bottom up to the opening on the bottom, pin the corners just to hold them in place. With the right side of the panel facing you and working through both thicknesses, use the gold to sc the bottom to the bag placing a sc in each sc and row end going all the way around. (120 sc)

Handle Lining (both sides): attach gold to the first open sc of one of the panel tops, sc in each sc across the top of the panel, place 2sc in the row ends across the handle, sl st to join. Cut your color and tuck your ends.
