Sunshine Square Dishcloth

Materials:  

1 oz each of 2 colors- 100% Cotton worsted weight

-samples used Hobby Lobby I Love This Cotton, 3.5oz/100g, 180yd/165m
#6 White & #326 Curry

Notions:

·       US #7/4.5mm crochet hook

·       Yarn needle

Skill: Advanced Beginner/Intermediate

Gauge: WW- #7 hook- 16sc x 17 rows = 4” x 4”

Finished Sizes: 9-1/2” H x 10” W not including the picots.

Special Stitches:
Picot:  ch3, sl st in 1st ch
3 Picot:
(ch3, sl st in the 1st ch) 3x, sl st into the first ch of the first picot to close.
Change color in the last stitch of the row, do not cut, carry the working yarn up the edge of the dishcloth
: yo in old color, insert hook, yo, pull up loop, yo, draw through two loops, drop old color, pick up new color, yo and draw through all loops to finish st, leave old color dangling until needed.”

Abbreviations: US
Ch- chain

Dc- double crochet
FPtr- front post treble crochet
RS- Right Side
Sc- single crochet
Sl st- slip stitch
Sp- space
St- stitch
WS- Wrong Side

 

 

NOTE:

1                Do not cut the yarn with each color change.

2                Carry the yarn up the side.

3                Ch2 at the beginning of the even numbered rows does not count as a stitch.

 

Pattern: 

Start with Color 1, ch39

Row 1: (RS) sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in the next ch, mark the 2nd sc with a stitch marker, sc in the remaining 36 ch. (38 sc)

Row 2: (WS) ch2, turn, dc in the first sc and each sc across. (38 dc) Join Color 2.

Row 3: ch1, turn, sc in the first dc and the next 2 dc, FPtr around the post of the marked sc from Row 1, (sk 4 sc on Row 1, FPtr around the next sc, sk the 2 dc behind the FPtr on this Row, sc in the next 4 dc, FPtr around the next sc on Row 1) 5 times, sk 4 sc on Row 1, FPtr around the next sc, sk the 2 dc behind the FPtr on this Row, sc in the last 3 dc. (26 sc, 12 FPtr)

Row 4: ch2, turn, dc in the first stitch and each stitch across. (38 dc) Change to Color 1.

Row 5: ch1, turn, sc in the first dc, FPtr around the first FPtr 2 rows below, sk the dc behind the FPtr on this Row, sc in 4 dc, (FPtr around the next 2 FPtr 2 rows below, sk the 2 dc behind the FPtr on this Row, sc in the next 4 dc) 5 times, FPtr around the next FPtr 2 rows below, sk the dc behind the FPtr on this Row, sc in the last dc. (26 sc, 12 FPtr)

Row 6: ch2, turn, dc in the first stitch and each stitch across. (38 dc) Change to Color 2

Row 7: ch1, turn, sc in the first dc and the next 2 dc, (FPtr around the next 2 FPtr 2 rows below, sk the 2 dc behind the FPtr on this Row, sc in the next 4 dc) 5 times, sk the 2 dc behind the FPtr on this Row, sc in the last 3 dc. (26 sc, 12 FPtr)

Row 8: ch2, turn, dc in the first stitch and each stitch across. (38 dc) Change to Color 1.

Repeat Rows 5-8 four more times, finish off Color 2, Repeat Row 5 one more time. Do not cut Color 1.

EDGE: Worked RS facing, without turning.

NOTE: You will count the first and last sc of the corner 3 sc as part of your side counts. Do not count the center sc of the 3sc corner as part of your side. Those will just remain as (4 center sc)

Rotate your work 90 degrees so you are crocheting on the left edge.

Side 1: (RS) ch1, sc in the first sc end of the side, 3sc in each of the next two rows until the opposite end, sc in the side of the first sc from the bottom edge. (38 sc)

Bottom: 2sc in the first sc of the bottom (this is your corner), rotate your work and sc in each sc across the bottom to the last sc, 3sc in the last sc of the bottom. (38 sc between 2 corner sc)

Side 2: Rotate your work so you can crochet on the second side, 3sc in each of the next two rows until the opposite end, sc in the side of the first sc from the top edge. (38 sc between 2 corner sc)

Top: 2sc in the first sc of the top (this is your corner), rotate and sc in each of the stitches across the top finishing with 2sc in the last sc (this will finish the first corner) and joining to the first sc of the round. (38 sc between 2 corner sc)

Finishing Edge:

Side 1: ch1, sc in the join and 5sc, (Picot, sc in 6 sc) 5 times, sc in the last 2 sc before the center corner sc, (sc, 3Picot, sc) in the center corner sc, rotate your work to work along the bottom edge. (5 Picots, 1 3Picot, 38 sc)

Bottom: (sc in 6 sc, Picot) 5 times, sc in 8 sc, (sc, 3Picot, sc) in the center corner sc, rotate your work to work along Side 2. (5 Picots, 1 3Picot, 38 sc)

Side 2: sc in 7 sc, Picot, (sc in 6 sc, Picot) 4 times, sc in 7 sc, (sc, 3Picot, sc) in the center corner sc, rotate to work along the top edge. (5 Picots, 1 3Picot, 38 sc)

Top: Repeat Side 2, join to the first sc to finish off. (5 Picots, 1 3Picot, 38 sc)

Finish off and weave in ends.
