Love Language Scarf Pattern

The Love Language scarf pattern was born from the burning desire to try out a new, super budget-friendly yarn I found at Hobby Lobby! The pattern is available on my website, Ravelry, and Etsy. 

The yarn is by Yarn Bee, it's called Rainbow Wrapsody, and I used the Wild & Free colorway. It's 918yds and $8.99/cake (unless it's on sale, then it's $6 something!!). 

When I found it I just knew I had to try it and compare it to a Whirl from Scheepjes and a Twister from Hobbii. Here you can view the yarn review I did as a LIVE on Facebook last Sunday. 

I don't know what I was expecting when I started, but I didn't expect it to be as nice as it is. It is soft, lovely, and has a nice drape. The color changes are subtle and very well hidden in the yarn. There are no big knots to deal with. Plus, it came out of the cake as a center pull like a dream. I only got some knots towards the end of the cake because I allowed it to collapse in on itself and it tangled. Otherwise, it was a really nice cake of yarn to work with. 

If there is a downfall to this yarn, I would say that it is shorter in length than Twister and Whirl by almost 100 yds. But, two skeins would make a lovely shawl and you still wouldn't spend as much as one single cake of Twister or Whirl. It is only available in 10 colors right now. But, of the colors they have, many of them are in line with the most popular colors put out by the other two brands. And I really believe that they will continue to add to the palette. At least I hope they do! 

Keep your fingers crossed that Hobby Lobby sees the value of keeping and expanding this yarn line. It is a most economical alternative to the more expensive cakes from Scheepjes and Hobbii. If you prefer the others, then definitely shop where it makes you happy, but I have to watch my pennies and I'm super grateful for budget-friendly yarns!

New Pattern- Coming Soon!

Today I am introducing you to my new Four Seasons Scarf Pattern. I am calling it that because it really can be worn all four seasons when made out of the right materials, and because I designed it using Eco-Fusion* by Nurturing Fibres to represent the four seasons in four gorgeous colorways! Eco-Fusion is a lovely, soft, and squishy 50% Bamboo/50% Cotton blend that is ethically dyed and balled in South Africa. It is a wonderful company concerned about not only conservation but also in providing jobs for locals and affecting their community in a positive manner. Plus, I don't know what they put in their dye, but their yarn has the most fantastic smell throughout the whole skein...EVERY skein. 

I am working with Good Loops Yarn*, who is a stockist for Nurturing Fibres. They are a small, woman-owned business located here in the States. Stephanie, who is their "Director of Squish" has been good enough to put kits together for each season to make it easier for you to order your favorite. Each kit has exactly the right amount of yarn to make one scarf, so there is no waste. And the yarn feels and looks like the decadent treat it is. Each kit comes out to about $26 USD. This pattern is going to be your go-to for ease and simplicity this scarf season. It uses a two-row repeat (featuring fans and popcorns) throughout that is easy to memorize. It works up so fast, I can make one in two nights of TV watching (even with changing yarn colors). It calls for a #3 light/DK yarn, so even if you're on a tight budget and you can't purchase new yarns, this is perfect for using up leftovers. You could even get away with using baby weight yarns or doubling up fingering weight.

Multicolored- “Rainbow Classic” in the Multi-Citrus colorway

Large Eye needle for assembly 

Infinity scarf: 

Row1- Ch26, sc in 2nd ch, (ch1, sk ch, sc in next ch) across. 

Row2- ch1, turn, sc in first sc and first ch1 space,(ch1, sk sc, sc in next ch1) across, sc in last sc. 

Row3- ch4 (cts as dc and ch1), turn, (dc in next ch1, ch1) repeat across, dc in last sc. 

Row4- ch1, turn, sc in dc and ch1 space, (ch1, sk dc, sc in next ch1) across, sc in dc. 

Row5- ch1, turn, sc in first sc, (ch1, sc in next ch1) repeat, ch1, sc in last sc. 

Row6- ch3, turn, dc in ch1, (ch1, dc in next ch1) across, dc in last sc. 

Row7- ch1, turn, sc in dc, (ch1, sc in next ch1) across, ch1, sc in last dc. 

Repeat Rows 2-7 

End with a dc row when it is about 5 feet long. 

Leave a long piece for sewing ends together.

Materials: 1-1/2 skeins of each of the following:
Scheepjes "Spirit" in Dolphin, Blue Jay, Orca, and Grasshopper. You can find Scheepjes yarn here.
F hook
Lg eye needle for weaving ends

ch26

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across. (25)

Row 2-3: ch1, turn, sc in each sc across.

Row 4: ch1, turn, (sc in 1sc, sk next sc, 5dc in next sc, sk next sc) 5 times. Sc in last sc. (6shells, 7sc)

Row 5: ch4(cts as dc and ch1), turn, (sk 2dc, sc in next dc, ch1, sk 2dc, dc in next sc, ch1) 5 times, ch1, sk 2dc, sc in next dc, ch1, sk 2dc, dc in last sc.

Row 6: ch1, turn, sc in each st and sp across. sc in 3rd ch of original ch4 (25)

Row 7: ch2, turn, hdc in ea sc across.

Row 8-11: Repeat rows 4-7 once.

Row 12: ch1, turn, sc in each hdc across.(25)

Row 13: ch2, turn, hdc in each sc across.

Row 14-17: Repeat rows 12+13 alternately.

Row 18-114: Repeat rows 4-17, 5 times.

Row 115-118: Repeat rows 4-7

Row 119-120: Repeat row 4+5

Row 121: Repeat row 6

Row 122-123: Ch1, turn, sc in each sc across (25) do not cut!

Row 124: ch1, turn to long edge, sc in each sc+hdc row end, 2sc in each dc row end. Cut off. Weave in ends.

Row 125: Join with sl st in opposite side and repeat row 124

Cut strands for fringe- put 4 together- secure to end of scarf (using a latch hook technique) leaving 2 spcs in between each tassel.
